It’s amazing how much technology has changed the way we communicate over the past decade. Gone are the days of few tech-savvy businesses. With today’s social digital customers, it’s now the responsibility of every business to be online, to be engaged with your audience and to complete the digital transformation to meet your customers’ lifestyles, because if you do not adapt, your competitors are!
To be successful with your digital transformation, it does not mean that you need to be on every social media platform. After all, a new social media network seems to be popping up every month! I call these networks the Shiny New Social Media Networks. For example, is your business active on WhatsApp, SnapChat and Periscope? If your target demographic includes the Millennials, maybe you should be?
It’s virtually impossible for small business owners or marketers to be active and engaged on every social platform. So how do you choose which social media platforms are best for your business? That depends on your target demographic and what products and/or services you are trying to promote. There’s no point to create a profile and on every platform if it’s not relevant to your demographic? To stay relevant in this new always connected digital universe, you need to be prepared and have a strategy before diving in head first and wasting your time, effort and marketing dollars!
Ultimately, you want to invest the most time and effort, in the social network(s) that is going to provide you with the best return. Whether’s its web traffic, conversions or actual customers purchasing at your physical retail storefront. Which social networks are going to give you the best financial results!
Just because you hear some social media expert plugging some shiny new social media network, doesn’t mean that it’s best for your business. After all, they’re in business of selling training and educational courses to generate their revenue so most social media experts are going to plug and promote every shiny new social media platform that pops up, in hope that you will find their content informative and purchase their training materials! Which may result in to a profitable business for the social media guru, but not for your business. At Gray Press Media, we spend countless hours learning every social platform, but that doesn’t mean we are active on every social network. If our target demographic aren’t active on the social network, why would we?
Ask yourself …Where do you see your digital opportunities? What is your reason for choosing these social media platforms and what impact do you foresee for your business? You need to know how and where to invest. Another factor to consider is your industry… some industries have been engaging on social media platforms since their inception; i.e. travel and publishing, however other industries are still trying to figure it out. Another thought, what are your competitors doing? Not every competitor, but the successful ones. I’d suggest you follow your competition and start making notes on what’s working for them and what’s not.
Finally, digital technologies and social media are changing the customer interaction. You need to decide how to create the most compelling customer experience. Once you’ve master this, you’re business will increase from word-of-mouth and referrals!
